An old definition of insanity states that the insane repeat the same thing over and over expecting different results. A broken and desperate person, lacking confidence and needing reassurance (because of consistently failed outcomes) could do the same. One could also say that only a fool (who won’t learn the obvious) would repeat the same thing over and over and expect different results. Of course, one needs faith to repeat the same thing over and over and expect different results.
Oh kneel me down again, here at your feet,
Show me how much you love humility.
Oh Spirit be the star that leads me to
The humble heart of love I see in you
You are the God of the broken, the friend of the weak
You wash the feet of the weary, embrace the ones in need
I want to be like you, Jesus, to have this heart in me
You are the God of the humble
You are the humble King
(Vineyard Worship Song, from "Hungry" )
We are sent to the broken, the desperate, the ill, the foolish; those who will seek and receive help from outside of themselves because faith in themselves has failed them.
Those like us, whose thirst this world cannot satisfy (they’ve tried), whose desperate longing remains apart from God’s touch, and His love and affection for failures.
Those few who admit their desperate plight and who allow themselves to feel the pain of sadness and mourning, of failure after failure, of realizing they are really so alone…
"Come to me, you who are weary, broken, alone, desperate. You who are still a mess, still unhealed, still empty and longing to be filled, still running too fast, still ungrateful, still self-focused, still addicted… I know… Come to me…"
